I like the idea of a tiered lottery. Or maybe just simply add more points/yr once somebody reaches 4-5+ years? Like after the 5th year, take it to 5^4+1 instead of 5^3+1.

2 downsides to this - point creep in tough to draw units will get worse, and unlike now where every year you have chance at drawing however small it might be. With a tier you basically know its gonna take me X amount before i even get excited.

It will be interesting to see how the lottery works with the new buy a point system. Wonder if we will have a bunch that go that route or still roll the dice and take their chances on drawing.

So if we want to keep it as fair as possible, why have any kind of weighted lottery? Why not just do away with the points and everybody has the same chances in the lottery every year?

Because you're still going to have the unlucky saps that don't get drawn for a tag after five years and then the complaint will be the need for a point system again.

You would probably end up with people that would never draw a tag - like the elk/moose/bighorn and that wouldn't be good either.

It at least gives those who have been applying longer and getting denied a greater chance of drawing their tag.

The coyotes are still a huge problem but nobody talks about them. It’s all tag allocation arguments. #wakeup
