yep - pull it out with a winch tied high up on a shore tree a ways upstream from the dam

get in, start the silly thing, drive it to the ramp, no big whoop

why they didn't pre-tie a rope on while they were there is what went through everyone's head as they left the scene - ha ha ha

they should have just hooked a rope up to the ass end and pulled it off the rocks in the direction from whence it came. at the very least, they should've hooked a good rope up to it and taken it to shore with them so they wouldn't have to go back out to hook one up later. i am confused on why the boat recovery would be difficult. especially if they had a rope on it. in fact, that seems like it would have been the easier way to recover the boaters too. unless they were scared it would capsize once they started pulling it backwards.

That's what I would have thought too. Would have thought it would have been safer for all involved to just hook a rope up to the boat and drag it back up river. I suppose these rescuers have to "go by the book" so to speak or they just wanted to use some of their training for shits and giggles.

I am assuming that is what the person that is left with the job to remove the boat is going to have to do ---- -- probably walk out on the rocks holding onto a tether -- hook the wire up and hit the button to winch it.

When fishing in the fast water at the Garrison Dam Tailrace, we never shut the big motor off. Even if fishing all night. Too many nightmares about "uh oh, she won't start"...
