I've always said, if everyone had to pay taxes on a quarterly basis instead of having it withheld, tax rates in this country would be a lot lower overall.

Phil Mickelson paid 61% for winning a couple of tournaments in Great Britain. So maybe California's tax rates ain't so bad? :;:huh

I didn't think it's that clear cut. I thought for sure some states will tax you for earnings/winnings in their state even though you aren't a resident of that state, as I believe California does for winning an event there (too much gameshow money for them to not do it in their eyes). But you then get to deduct the taxes paid to California from your home state income tax obligations. And I am pretty sure this changes state by state.

At least, that was my understanding from years ago. Maybe it's been stream-lined a little since then.

I do see they have some state specific stipulations that would likely apply. It appears many pros do prefer to "reside" in states with no state income tax.

Plus need to pay the common 10-15% to the caddy. Sure, it may not seem like alot..especially since most caddies are on top of thier game and surely HELP the PRO win, but it is an expense that comes along with the territory.

Half my time in ND is at our cabin on Metigoshe - all smart time. We have a 20' YarCraft fishing boat and a 24' pontoon - both on lifts. The half my time in CA I'm picking oranges, lemons, grapefruit and avocados from my fruit trees - oh and once a month I mow my yard. What I do not do in CA is shovel ANY snow or scrape ANY frost from my windshield. In 41 years in SJ there has NEVER been ANY snow on the floor of the Santa Clara valley and being only 25 miles from the Pacific Ocean and its constant 50° ± temp our average lows are in 40's and highs in 60's. Seems like a win/win for us.

So no I don't need any help. After making the 3 day drive from CA to Metigoshe for 13 years what I would like is a plane and pilots license!

ps: It's 66° here now at 4:15 PST. How 'bout where you are?

Wasn't there also some gal from Farhole that was doing well at the professional level? Who would have thunk Fargo is the proving grounds in the golf world... Good for them.

Hey now, I resemble that Farhole comment.....

Hoge is in 3rd place and the top 3 are in the same flight but our antenna isn't working or something. Just a heads up and wondering if anybody is watching.

Tom kinda always seems to fold on Sun. He has great potential and has been golfing good this year.

Tom Hoge earned $304,000 for tying for 5th place at the 2025 Valero Texas Open.

Not a bad paycheck for a week of golf. So many good golfers these days. I bet it's fun when the game is good and confidence level is where it needs to be but I can't imagine the pressure on some of those easy short putts that they often miss.
