I do not understand the closures either. I thought these campgrounds should be self-sufficient. They spend tons of money running around lakes they control making sure that no rancher has all his fences up. Making no one is camping on Corp land. Making sure no one is driving on a shoreline.
They should take lessons from Mountrail County!
A number of years ago we loaded up the 4 wheelers and headed to the Missouri River to ride the shore line. As the river was really low. We unloaded at Sunflower Bay and rode to the state line. The shore line was littered with stuff that had fallen over board or blowen away from shore. When we got back to the pickup/trailer and loaded up. A park Ranger showed up and said we couldn't ride the shore line as no vehicle traffic. The 4 wheelers were muddy and just off the parking lot was places in the mud where we had ripped around. I just said okay thanks for the heads up. I'm sure he knew, but was pretty cool about it.

I thought all the firings, layoffs, and elimination of positions was the work of Elon and doge in their quest to save money. So I’m not sure how much current admin staff deserve for the blame of no services.

That is such BS, it's RIVERBOTTOM for Gods sake. I ride it ALL THE TIME, as do ice fishermen up and down the river. Yet cattle are free to access the shorelines1? They were farming it in the 2000's with the ultra low levels.

Don’t go down around Gettysburg that warden was handing tickets out like candy would rather you drive over a couple pressure ridges and die.

For the last 14 years the USCE has looking for a way to get even with ND residents mainly of Bismarck and Minot about how the Corp handled flooding in 2011. Ok, I will say it again those that handled the flow of water in the Missouri and Souris were supposedly engineers, I called them educated idiots. Trump and Musk didn't tell them where to cut back. I am sure that they could have a 100 other places to cut back, but no, cutting back on outdoor recreation will hurt ND the most.

Good grief, you’re gonna need more tinfoil for your hat. You think the COE gives a shit about “getting even” 14 years later? Most of those people that were even with the COE at that time aren’t even there anymore. And WTF are they getting even for? Flooded homes that are built in the flood plain and in the river valleys? It was a terrible situation and devastating to many. Water is a f’kr. It’s the life blood of society and why so many towns, city’s, and developments are located next to a body of water. Yet anyone that thinks you can tame Mother Nature beyond a reasonable doubt hasn’t thought things through. Much of our protections from ma’ nature isn’t about ultimate protection, it’s a balance between the laws of averages and cost. Just remember, North Dakota has sea creature fossils in the west and the entire east of red river valley was at one time a giant lake. Yet we only have about 150 years of weather data, and only maybe 100-years of good data, and that’s the basis for our laws of averages………just a little food for thought. Want to make sure the grocery store doesn’t run out of tin foil this summer, 🤣.

Yep im no fan of the coe but mother nature just kicked them in the dick on that one and reminded everyone who was in charge. Some one was getting flooded out in that deal.

The COE’s arrogance led to the severity of the flood in 2011

Chainsaw surgery usually doesn’t end well. Boots on the ground folks are the ones who matter most in the government organizations that we enjoy the most. Unfortunately the Doge cuts didn’t do much but eliminate the folks that actually did something. A scalpel taken to some higher ups would have been far more effective. Reap what you sow I guess.

There are several high use campgrounds and facilities in SD that will be closed. And no Dam tours anywhere it looks like.

These closures can't all be blamed on Federal cut backs. We love down stream campground and in the last 15 yrs and mainly after Covid did we see a lack of employee or volunteers . No longer have someone at the gate, they haven't done bingo or movies at the outdoor area it's actually becoming over grown. Trout pond have been improved but that's be coming over grown. It's not the same from when we grew up and raised our kids.
