We hunted Saturday and Sunday. Limits Saturday plus some bonus BWT, then a bit harder hunting Sunday because our scouting efforts were lacking. Still came home with 15 for three guys, which is nothing to sneeze at.

God I love slough hunting.

Growing up around Mobridge,(there are a lot of draws and creeks dammed up) we always jumped stock damns first weekend of ducks. It wasn't till later in the fall that you could hunt them in the corn. Love jumping stock damns.

I have over the last decade been able to amass a collection of 3 white (2%) milk jugs to look like blue geeses. I have also amassed 5-6 of the "chocolate milk jugs" to look like either the speckled geeses or Canadian honkers.

limits are had very easily each and every single time I go out

so I guess you could say things are pretty serious for me on the "waterfowl hunting"

:;:cheers

I haven't taken a full inventory, but I think I have 14 dozen full body honkers, 3.5 dozen honker shells, 2 dozen full body mallards, 7 dozen or so floater duck deks, and 4 sandhill crane deks. All I need now is a sponsorship from a decoy company and viola, I'll need a new trailer. LOL!!

All I needed for years Mort was a set of waders, my 870, ammo, and birds in the area. Shot plenty of ducks sneaking sloughs and rivers. As I grew more lazy I acquired more decoys as it's much easier to walk on dry land and put up 6 dozen deks than it is to sneak muck bottom cat tail choked sloughs. Took on many a "Man Killer" in my younger days and had a blast doing it. It'd probably kill me now. LOL!! Man them were the days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally got out on Sunday after the rain quit. Didn't wanna bother digging through the trailer in the rain so we carried out 10 fullbody ducks and 2 mojos because of soaked fields. We sure got the birds to come in at times but the shots from the section line were tough with the wind. Ended up with 7 but probably shot a box of shells at passing geese. My buddy got his first duck so I consider that a success!

Been cooler with a M12 or maybe more fun with an 1100 tweaked by a good 'smith. Sorry: True. 870 is like a 350 Chevrolet: Gruel.

Sorry Svn, I'm hooked on my 870 "Bertha". In 28 years "Bertha" hasn't failed me once and I've baptized her in more slough water, mud, cattails, and dirt than most men have a right to. She's been driven over, lost, dropped, dunked, and barrel plugged so many times I should be arrested for gun abuse, but she keeps on going BOOM when I pull the trigger. Had to treat her to a new barrel a year or so ago, but the rest of her is all original. When I want to be cute, I'll grab a different scatter gun, but when I want to kill stuff, I grab "Bertha". She's taken down everything from doves to turkey and swan without a hitch. She's hammered coyotes, raccoons, and various other critters with ease and in most any weather ND can dish out. She eats any ammo I feed her and asks for more. She protects my home and family and I have come to depend on her to work.....EVERY TIME!! She's the first gun I ever bought for myself at the ripe old age of 18. An M12 might be more nostalgic or an 1100 more adept at rapid fire, but neither one can hold a candle to "Bertha" as far as I'm concerned. I LOVE THAT GUN!!!!!
