Gm repaid there loans, but that doesn't include the money they were given to keep a float. The government still owns a good portion of the company which I doubt we'll ever break even on the investment. Especially if people refuse to buy there vehicles even though we as tax payor have ownership of the company.

I am now getting real close to pulling the trigger but am really torn between my final 2: A Chevy 5.3 (or 6.2) or a Ford 3.5 Eco. Would like some help making the final decision from those of you that have seen these trucks in action towing a 4000lb boat? Thanks.

My 2014 6.2 GMC pulls my 621 ranger quite nicely. Better than my 2011 with the 6.2. It will pull it in overdrive easily as long as you are not bucking a wind. No wind she will make about 11.5-12.5 MPG.

I posted before but will tell you I love how my 2014 gmc crew cab 6 ft box truck pulls. I am getting between 11 to 13 mpgs and am pulling a 619 ranger fully loaded. I use the tow haul mode and depending on the terrain, I will usually use manual mode and set it in 5th. All the power I need and the ride and quiet interior is second to non. Hope your search goes well. Great luck

For pulling the ecoboost hands down you get the torque with low rpms you don't need to run in 4th gear on a 6 speed tranny at 3500 rpms to go up a small hill like a 5.3 gm. I'm on my second ecoboost pull a 208 pro v GL with easy my brothers 14' 5.3 seems like it's pulling a plow when he drives, to me there's no compareison.

My "newer" pickup is a 2009 Chevy 3500 crew dually with 6L gas engine. It carried my 11' (main floor length) Lance camper (weighs 4,000# with groceries, clothing, and bedding for two) nicely to Alaska and back two summers ago. Around the Dakotas and MN, it carries the camper and tows my 17 1/2' boat while carrying the camper. If I had a 5th wheel instead of a pickup camper, I'd have bought a diesel.
The big downside of a diesel, according to a Ford shop foreman, is commuting with one will damage the engine prematurely. He explained that any time you start a piston engine, the cold rings let fuel into the crankcase. Gasoline vaporizes from warm oil, but diesel needs to get hot before it boils away.

For pulling boats and campers why would you even consider a 1/2 ton?
Just doesn't make any sense to me I guess.
But each to their own.

Pulling a boat doesn't take $hit. I took a monster pontoon out of the lake with a buddies traverse. Sob pulled it like a trooper didn't even notice it on the bumper.

Ha ha I got air bags and a B&W turnover ball in my 2010 1500 Dodge 5.7 Hemi. Love the pickup only thing I wished it had 3.90 or 4.10 gears for the amount of towing I do with it versus the 3.54 gears and one size larger than factory tires it has now, Had Schmidt trans in Dix build me a bomb proof tranny for it so it handles the towing abuse I throw at it. This 5.7 Hemi would run circles around the V10 Dodge ram 2500 I had for a short stint years back, but it still isn't a Cummins.

That's what I mean, you buy a 1/2 ton and stick a bunch of money into it so you can pull stuff, why not just get a truck that comes that way from the factory? For 45k I can buy a brand new 3/4 ton crew cab diesel that has twice the torque, and warranty.
Just sayin.

I guess I was staying away from diesel because I need to drive the truck in town every day to and from work and thought it would be overkill for that. I have to admit part of my reason for not considering diesel is a lack of knowledge from just never running one.

Oh, gotchya.
Why not just buy a cheap work car for driving around every day? That way your new rig will last you for a long long time! Id go find a Buick with a 3800 n lower miles and you'd be good to go for years! My 3/4 hardly ever comes out of the garage in the winter, maybe by 2 or 3 times. And I commute 45 miles one way to work. A front wheel drive with good grippers gets around damn good in the winter.

I have the 5.3 and it doesn't shift down and jump to 3500 rpm's on hills. Reason for the 1/2 ton is only pull the boat part of the year and road trips the rest. Don't want to bounce around in a 3/4 ton during that time. To each his own for what trucks everybody likes. For me this works out great. Comfort and power is great.

So you basically wanted a car then I take it?
As for bouncing around, this isn't the 70s and 80s.
3/4 ride darn nice now days, heck our 15 dually rides nice when its pulling down the road. I guess when I want to go for a drive/trip I take a car or SUV. If I want to pull or haul something i take a truck. Guess I'm just old fashioned.

I do the same, But I only have half ton. It was a better fit for what we need right now and plus it fits in the garage, a 3/4 ton would be a very very tight squeeze if it fit at all. But the F150 is backed in the garage and only comes out for hunting, fishing, camping, or truck stuff.
otherwise its the 1992 ford tempo!!!:;:rockit2.3 liters of raw hamsterpower

This.:;:thumbsup I have a 2004 Chevy Duramax Diesel 2500. 113,000 miles. Hardly use in the winter. For winter I have a 1994 Ford Exploder to get me to work and back and getting around on the lake. While it is true that neither of these are lookers in a parade, they are paid for so I can expend my money on other must have toys. Just sayin

Royce is disappointed with the level of Hemi respect on this thread.

Said to tell you all that he's pissing on your Ford and Chevy tires next Jedi event.

Dear Royce.
We are sorry your master has poor choice in his pick ups. I talked it over with my lab and she has agreed to let you ride along with her in the superior F150. Please contact Sasha to set up a pick up time. you can find her chasing a rabbit or fetching up some ducks.
