I think it's all about the $$$.
It has nothing to do with money. The amount of money that comes in from this is peanuts. However, this season is becoming something it was never meant to be. It was implemented at a time when whitetail deer number were extremely high and people were trying to get 12 and 13 year old's included in the normal youth season. The thought behind this season was to allow participation under the watchful eye of a mentor during a season with less pressure and teach kids that there is game management value in harvesting does. Then they included 11 year old's, then they changed it so the kids can hunt during the regular deer season and don't even need to have an unarmed mentor, and now they are trying to add mule deer. Every time you give someone an inch, they will eventually want a foot.

You understand the the G&F likely didn't request this bill right?

You can thank the people that introduced the bill. Most likely requested by people that either live in or hunt in an area that doesn't have many whitetails.

I think any increase in mule deer doe tags for anyone of any age is plain retarded. I think they should actually close any mule deer doe seasons for 2 years and I think a lot of sportsmen and landowners would agree. Out of curiosity who is the bills sponsors? It’s to the point that there is almost open intentions of war fare on our deer populations…..how much you wanna bet if they gave no mule deer doe tags for 2-5 years we would see a spike in mule deer numbers. That would wreak havoc on the CWD epidemic theory. Why is it starting to look like they want deer casually shot off to all of a sudden claim “deer are vanishing because of cwd”….. no you corrupt assholes deer are vanishing because of 1)hunter harvest/predation 2) winters 3)
Decreasing habitat.

The sincerely hope the GnF is speaking out AGAINST this stupidity. If not, then I want to know just how in the flying flubenhouer fluck does shooting the reproductive capability of a big game animal, namely mule deer, "maximize outdoor opportunity"? Furthurmore, if 12-13 year olds can travel to western ND to whack a mule deer doe, they can by gosh darn travel to Minnetucky for free (10-12 year olds) or for 5 bucks (13-17 year olds) and shoot does where that state wants to reduce whitetail populations. I'm all about opportunities for the youngsters and I think I've proven that over the years, but putting MORE pressure on the limited mule deer population that is already harassed, harangled, and run around from the beginning of bow season to the end of bow season (Over 4 months BTW) and then chased around by mountain lions, the rest of the year is IRRESPONSIBLE GAME MANAGEMENT!!!! In my humble opinion.

The whiteatail population in many areas is in the shitter after they were wiped out by EHD and G & F reduced tags somewhat, but not to near the extent they should have. This is the next best answer? Kill a bunch of mule deer does? Cant wrap my head around this one...

Everyone hating on the NDGF here.. Keep in mind this is your legislators bringing this up...not the NDGF.

You will only see more of this shit when you start putting the management of the states wildlife in the hands of politicians and not wildlife professionals.

They don't specifically call out mule deer, it states " An anterless deer " are they referring to the areas of the state that issue any anterless tags ? if so wouldn't this exclude the main mule deer areas such as the badlands as those tags stipulate species ?

a. An individual whose eleventh, twelfth, or thirteenth birthday occurs in the same year as a youth deer hunting season is entitled to receive a
(1) A statewide white-tailed antlerless deer permit; or
(2) An antlerless deer permit, as determined by the governor by proclamation.

Fuck the kids, we need to save the mule deer. But I'm going to fight like hell to make sure I can sit by a bait pile and shootem. No hunting license, just shooting license needed 🤣

I am all for an antlerless youth season(s) when the deer population allows for it. Killing more antlerless mule deer and even whitetails at this point, when our herd is darn near at historic lows makes zero management sense to me. Habitat is key but the tree rows/abandon farm yards of yester years are never coming back.
