Indeed lots of potential for the future. Remember though it took the Royals several years of "potential" to become a playoff team - you just never know how guys will progress. Pitching staff could really use an ace and the only way they'll get one is if they develop one - I've heard Berrios is more of a #2-3 guy but we'll see. Hughes had a mediocre year and Gibson is becoming more consistent. We'll see how Duffy handles a full season in the bigs. In the OF, you'd have to think it will be Rosario, Buxton, Hicks, leaving not much room for Tori. He was quoted in the star trib as not being open to being a half-time player and even pondering retirement which I doubt he'll do. It'd probably cost 7-8M to sign him and I don't think it's worth it, even though I think his leadership was enormous. Such a more confident team with him around than the last few years with no leader (talking to you, Mauer). Did they give up on Oswaldo Arcia? In the IF, I think they'd like Sano to play the field and so Plouffe will probably be let go. Escobar had a heck of a second half, hopefully he can duplicate that. It'd be nice to see Dozier become a better hitter; he should be able to hit much higher than .240 although his power makes up for it a bit. I'd like to see Vargas become a full-time player at 1B/DH but his development has been slow. Really need an upgrade at catcher but that's a hard position to do that. They really should ask Mauer about catching again at least a few days a week. I'm sure he wouldn't go for it but his production is a lead weight at First base. There are 6 first basemen with a higher BA in the AL (that used to be the only argument for Mauer - Batting Average), he's 11th in RBI for AL 1B and anyone below him has 150 or fewer AB, and he's 19th in HR (there's only 15 teams in the AL!).
