Well, so much for that. Still, quite the change from the previous 4 years and loads of potential going into next year.

I like Paul Molitor. Can't be disappointed with the improvement. A few years ago (can't remember exactly when) there wasn't a second wild card spot and they are 4 back from the yanks so post season wouldn't have been a discussion. Great offense potential for next season. Go Twins.......

It's good to see them playing decent ball lots of young talent next year could be promising.

I agree, Raider, it was a good year for the Twins. If they could sure up their pitching staff some and maybe find a catcher that can hit, throw and catch, I think they could do even better next year just with the guys they have. Agree Molitor deserves some credit too. I find it hard to believe they will keep Plouffe and Sano and I don't see Sano going anywhere. I also wonder about Torii's future, regardless of his abilities, I think he is good for moral in the club house.

Opening day rotation should be Gibson, Hughes, Santana, Duffy, Berrios (order is subject to change) next year which should be actually pretty good. Would like to hold onto Plouffe but he is a free agent and will probably get a pretty good sized contract. Time will tell. Sano is under team control for 5 more years. No problems there.

Indeed lots of potential for the future. Remember though it took the Royals several years of "potential" to become a playoff team - you just never know how guys will progress. Pitching staff could really use an ace and the only way they'll get one is if they develop one - I've heard Berrios is more of a #2-3 guy but we'll see. Hughes had a mediocre year and Gibson is becoming more consistent. We'll see how Duffy handles a full season in the bigs. In the OF, you'd have to think it will be Rosario, Buxton, Hicks, leaving not much room for Tori. He was quoted in the star trib as not being open to being a half-time player and even pondering retirement which I doubt he'll do. It'd probably cost 7-8M to sign him and I don't think it's worth it, even though I think his leadership was enormous. Such a more confident team with him around than the last few years with no leader (talking to you, Mauer). Did they give up on Oswaldo Arcia? In the IF, I think they'd like Sano to play the field and so Plouffe will probably be let go. Escobar had a heck of a second half, hopefully he can duplicate that. It'd be nice to see Dozier become a better hitter; he should be able to hit much higher than .240 although his power makes up for it a bit. I'd like to see Vargas become a full-time player at 1B/DH but his development has been slow. Really need an upgrade at catcher but that's a hard position to do that. They really should ask Mauer about catching again at least a few days a week. I'm sure he wouldn't go for it but his production is a lead weight at First base. There are 6 first basemen with a higher BA in the AL (that used to be the only argument for Mauer - Batting Average), he's 11th in RBI for AL 1B and anyone below him has 150 or fewer AB, and he's 19th in HR (there's only 15 teams in the AL!).

Well, thats the problem. There is only so many "aces" to go around. Twins will not be signing Price, Greinke, Cueto or Zimmerman in the off-season after spending big money on Hughes, Nolasco (;:;barf) and Santana in the last few years. Arcia has tanked in the minors, not sure what to do with that. Would like to have Torri back for one more year, he still has some pop in his bat, but it needs to be Rosario, Bux, and Hicks in the outfield next year. Definitely on board with the Mauer back to catcher scenario. He isn't earning his paycheck at 1B.

Twins are making moves....that I really don't understand. Win bidding rights to Park...who is a 1B. Having Sano play winter ball in the outfield despite already having Rosario/Bux/Hicks/Kepler. Not sure what is going on.

Those Japanese players sure paid off for the Twins the last time around. What was his name? Broke an ankle in the first few weeks if I remember correctly. Upon return, we had similar batting averages in the majors.

It was Nishioka and I didn't like that move from the beginning. Nishioka was 160lbs soaking wet and about 5'8". This guy is fairly big dude, 6'1", 195lbs and won't be subject to a double play breakup hard slide.

Good subject! Has anybody done some of the spring training games as a vacation? Any certain packages you would recommend or not recommend? The better half and I were talking about doing a spring vacation in Florida for a week and taking in some games as well.

He was released some time ago I think. There is no "loss cutting" in baseball. All the money is guaranteed. You cut a guy, you're still paying for him.

My wife and I are headed to Fort Meyers this spring. Hopefully take in some fishing between the twins and red sox games. Everything is expensive. I think we'll fly into orlando then rent a car.
