Caught nothing, saw one going by on an atv. Anyone with cheap boots got wet feets.
It was a good day to sit out there and shoot the shit with my brothers.

I feel your pain been fishing this thing every year since off and on for 25 years

Do you guys think it would be cheating if I started leaving piles of rocks on the ice where I want to fish :icegif:

I heard a story this weekend from one of the ice fisherman that there is an atv with tracks in forty feet of water by the casino.

I caught 2 fish last year and 1 the year before. So, I know it can be done. But, it sure is frustrating.

I talked to a guy who went out on the ice early. Said when they first went out there was only a few inches of water on the ice. At the peak he said about 8 inches where he was (in the middle of the pack). When it came time to end, he said they waited for the crowd to clear. He said once all the people were mostly gone the water was going back down into the holes big time. By the time they wandered off there was only a couple inches left. But I suppose if you figure 4500 people at about 200lbs average that's 900,000 lbs or 450 ton of fish slayers.

I'm guessing too, that there was more snow than normal, on the ice. Snow can be heavy.

There sure weren't many people wandering around, like normal. I didn't see much traffic going to the Pepsi trailer, or the outhouses for that matter.

In all honesty, a canoe would have worked just fine. We were pretty close to the dead center of the field, and the water was 6" deep or so, the entire time we were on the ice.

This was a major blunder for those who wanted to enjoy a beautiful day on devils lake. There was no reason why snow could not have been removed a few weeks in advance instead of a few days. Very disappointed in the dlvfd for not preparing better knowing the conditions of the ice many weeks in advance. Very very disappointed ;:;rant

An event run by volunteers for a charitable cause... don't think I'll say much except for a big THANK YOU for the countless hours all the organizers put in AND for our local VOLUNTEER DLFD!! We appreciate your fundraising efforts as well as your service.

And all those small towns who have sold these tickets to people who enjoy the atmosphere that devils lake has to offer who like many make this a past time of traditional get togethers. If it wasn't for all those small town businesses getting involved in a non charitable event put on by volunteers. Those small town anglers who came to fish hoping to win a new truck sorry for awful conditions that was out of our volunteers hands.

Sounds like you are volunteering to start clearing snow a couple weeks in advance of next years tournament.:;:chillpill Stop into the fire hall and put your name down. I am sure they will like the help. I personally think organizers do a great job year after year after year. Some things can not be helped.;:;banghead

For a lot of people that fish this tournament, it might be their only time ice fishing for the year, and I imagine many are unprepared to deal with water on the ice like that. For the amount of money they raise, they should do a little more to try minimize situations like this for the people paying for the tickets. Kind of a tough situation, though, with the warm temps we've had the past couple weeks.
