Put as single overpass with 23 going over top and on and off ramps. Couldn’t be much more expensive than this conglomeration. Every intersection on interstate is like that
Agreed, but I knew they would look at this as an opportunity for another roundabout. It just had that smell. I drive that way often using 83 to get to 23 and then west to the rez and just don't think the traffic heading west is enough to create much congestion at a standard overpass with on/off ramps.

Then again, I'm sure they've done the vehicle count and have more details than I am privy to.

It's all discussed extensively in the video i posted, no need to speculate if one just watches the video.

I think overhead lighting all away across this intersection with big overhead signs to give motorists better visual directions would help with low light foggy situations.

like said in a post earlier, you cannot fix stupid driver that don't pay attention, we are doweling out money because drivers don't understand how to drive, driven that highway many times as most of you have, passed through the accident that happened this past fall. I'd be curious about the drivers that were involved in the accident, if they didn't know how that intersection works as being the first time they have passed through that area or were frequent travelers that been through there.
I always look down road when approaching that area if I'm traveling south to bismarck and watch the right were 23 comes to intersection, you can tell if a dumb nut going too fast and not going to stop and etc. Guess I'm saying if you are traveling south you have to be the defensive driver in that area, cover your own ass and watch for the other drivers.

I agree with bringing the two lanes together and have an overpass coming off 23 to merge south or north....not that hard to figure out, too bad they have too worry about the cost, if its going to save a life like they want it to or if safety is the main concern.....then cost shouldn't even be an issue the state has wasted more money on other stupid road projects so why should it matter.
my two cents

Friday morning, there was another bad accident at this intersection.

A young lady in a pickup with her 2 dogs was pulling a horse trailer with 3 of her horses in it. She was on her way to Valley City for the Winter show, when a young man came across the highway from the east and didn't stop.

The young lady is bruised and banged up but alive and the dogs are ok.

He hit the horse trailer in the side, the pickup and trailer rolled. He hit the trailer so hard that 1 horse was thrown out the side of the trailer and died on the side of the highway, another horse died inside the trailer and the 3rd horse is still alive but banged up and traumatized.

My wife has been following this young lady's story on face book.

Posting this because this intersection is a bad one, please pay attention when approaching this intersection when you are driving down 83.

Yeah, this sounded bad. I swear most of these traffic issues are due to phones now. You can see in both directions a long ways there.

The highway splitting around the cemetery at this intersection is a significant design flaw. Street view images below show what the driver sees traveling from east to west on the 500-ft segment between NB 83 and SB 83. There are 3 sets of rumble pads before the stop sign which has been fitted with flashing red lights. Note the skidmarks visible over the last set of rumble pads.

NDDOT just spent a bunch of money raising grade on the NB lanes in this area. Seems that money would have been better spent moving the cemetery and eliminating the oversized median which is apparently wide enough for morons to forget they've been traveling a divided highway while achieving enough speed that stopping is a problem after barreling across three sets of rumble pads, through an illuminated stop sign, and across two lanes with shoulders.

Sad deal for sure. I see there are rumble strips , they usually work. Does that stop sign have blinking red lights on it ? I've always said the road from from Parshall to Hwy 83 is the longest 40 miles in North Dakota it's almost hypnotizing to me.

Yes, like this but they are hard wired in, not battery operated.

Slappy, I would guess that 95% of these accidents happen with vehicles coming from the west heading east on 23.

When you come from that direction, there is nothing blocking the view when looking north at the south bound lane.

Sad deal!,, I honestly dont know what more they can do at that intersection without making it an over/under pass of sorts.

Lowering the speed limit on 83 through there would be a good start.

I travel through there all the time and the stupid shit I see from guys racing to and from the oil field is ridiculous. 4-6pm is an absolute shit show of guys east bound on 23 trying to get back to Minot, 5 minutes faster than anyone else.

Dumb people is why I will never trust a vehicle that drives itself. I know a few people that let their vehicles drive themselves while they watch movies. Not smart!
