BREAKING: For the 2021 season Yamaha will produce a 550hp four stroke. The motor is specifically designed for the 1994 Lund 16ft Adventurer.

In all seriousness, what kind of performance gains are there from say a 300? We're talking a 50% HP increase but from what I see a maybe 10% increase in top speed? With a 50% increase in fuel burn? I'm just trying to figure out what is the point, other than the obvious that you have the money and can do it!

With the way the wind blows here, there just aren't very many days I want to run wide open. Maybe you can, it just beats the piss out of everything. So top speed means little. I'd take a boat that can do 35 COMFORTABLY in any conditions over a 65 mph boat any day.

I remember when 200HP was huge and 50MPH on the water was screaming fast. Now 200 is barely middle of the road and @ 50MPH you're getting passed like you're standing still.

its the same reason most guys will pay $1000 for a seat pedestal instead of just slowing down a little. If your back hurts after a rough ride your boat took a pretty good beating too.

I learned how to waterski behind a 70 hp merc. Kneeboard too. Later, a 85hp Suzuki was enough to barefoot behind. I had a pal whose dad had a boat with a 115 hp merc, and that thing was hot.

Then later, a pal had a Ski Centurion barefoot boat, with a 200 hp Opti, and that thing was a corvette. Later, the same guy traded for a Mastercraft Barefoot Warrior Comp, with a 200hp Yamaha. Mind blown.

Now, fishing boats have more than double that HP. Shoot, one of my neighbors has a pontoon with a 350 Merc on it.

But, the first time I heard about an $85K boat for here in ND, I thought someone was pulling my leg.

And never even mind wakeboard boats. The better ones routinely go for north of 100K.

All of a sudden, the very best waders on the market (perhaps Sitka or Simms), even at $1000, seem pretty tame by comparison.

It’s river runner recreation in Alberta. Apparently the owner has a man made pond for shaking down new boats before they send them out. Atleast that’s the story on Facebook. There’s actual video of it running on the yarcraft owners group page.

I think the price of everything is going to drop substantially in the next 4-6 months.

We fished with a guide in Florida last summer who was running a Vexas with a 200 Pro XS Fourstroke. He had up to 72 MPH. That was fast enough for this guy. With all the gators, gar, and other stuff running around it made me nervous when we were running. It was fun but wow who needs it.

Do you not see a prop wash on the starboard side of the boat in the picture? Do you think it was from a jet boat?

1895 Storm?

Ummm.. No.

Yes a 1998 1895 Storm that is supposedly a tournament/competition boat because it has a 60 gal tank. I do not have GPS (I've been on Metigoshe since I was born and I will be 75 this summer) and have no need for GPS or mapping. The speed is from the pinwheel on the depth finder, so it may not be accurate - it's just all I have.

I ran that boat for 6 seasons with a 2006 225 Optimax, 25 more HP, less weight (no kicker), and less wind resistance (mine was a side console). Finding the sweet spot between engine height and running a custom worked DAH 21 Tempest, it was a 60 mph boat on GPS. using a paddle wheel is not an accurate measurement for speed. No offense, but there's no way your seeing high 60's with more wind resistance, less power, and more weight on the same hull and likely a factory bent prop and no jack-plate or engine height adjustment. I'd wager a guess on GPS it's a 55 mph boat, maybe a touch more. Which by the way is respectable performance.
