  • Whole carcasses of animals harvested in North Dakota can remain in the deer unit, or may now be transported anywhere in the state. However, carcass waste must be disposed of via landfill or waste management provider. This does not apply to heads dropped at CWD collection sites or lymph nodes submitted for CWD surveillance. Taxidermists and game processors can also accept intact carcasses of animals harvested within North Dakota but assume responsibility for disposal.
  • A new management strategy that allows baiting restrictions to be removed in a unit if the number of adult deer equivalent to at least 10% of the gun licenses allocated in the unit are tested for CWD within a year, and all the results are negative. If the sampling goal is not met or CWD is confirmed in the unit, the baiting restriction will remain.
If the 10% sampling goal is not met or CWD is confirmed in the unit, the baiting restriction will remain, the department said.

I hunt 3A4. We were allocated 2,200 gun tags for 2023. The 2022 statewide whitetail gun tag harvest rate was 53%. Instead of 10%, GnF really wants 19% of the deer harvested.

(10% allocated tags "220" ÷ 53% successful harvest rate "1,166").

Our state / federal governments don’t have even the slightest chance of affecting the progress of this supposed malady.

I’m sick and tired of the “well, they have to do SOMETHING” rationalization.

NO, you actually do NOT have to do something in cases where it’s obvious that it would have no measurable effect.

The malady is not the objective, it's the justification.

PFFT!! CWD IS STILL A NON ISSUE. Nothing has changed in Wisconsin, Wyoming, Colorado, SD, here in ND, or any place else with CWD. No data to show a health hazard to humans, no data to show a population decline ANYWHERE it's been found, no data to show bait bans work to curb cwd spread, and I haven't heard of any studies in the works to gather said information. This is a joke. One positive case and these narcissists drop the ban hammer like a ton of dung, but 10% of the gun tags have to be negative to lift it. This makes about as much sense as all the chicken little GnF minions running around claiming CWD will be the death of everything. STUPID!!

This is their way of saying " we are listening to what you are saying and implementing the changes you are requesting" while making the goal UNOBTAINABLE, thus allowing them to keep doing whatever they want.

Anyone know who to contact at NDGF to voice our opinions about this? I think It would be nice to tell them how we feel!

The baiting restrictions will be lifted in 2b .

The criteria was met

  • A new management strategy that allows baiting restrictions to be removed in a unit if the number of adult deer equivalent to at least 10% of the gun licenses allocated in the unit are tested for CWD within a year, and all the results are negative. If the sampling goal is not met or CWD is confirmed in the unit, the baiting restriction will remain.

Today - Wildlife division chief Casey Anderson said that despite lower harvest success, the department met its surveillance goal in units 2B, 2G and 2G1. The objective is to achieve a sampling goal of 10% of the allocated deer gun licenses for a given year.

Positive cases detected in 2023 came from units 3A1, 3A2, 3E1, 3E2 and 3F2.

So does that mean 2B, 2G, and 2G1 all get green-lighted for baiting?

It's not surprising the eastern units had the more compliant hunters. 🥴
