Advertising preparedness is not a good idea as all the unprepared will be at the door step looking to get in.

I get that. There might be one person here that has a general idea where I live and it's not like they'll be able to google the info if it were to happen.

SDMF will take pity on me and my clan. Or, at a minimum, feed/water us in return for slave labor.

Which seems like a fair deal actually - like biblical times.

least a guy should do is keep everything full of gas so you can get to a good sized lake, I think that would be the safest bet. Wishing we could make a living at fishing would take on a whole new meaning.

I doubt my MSR water filter would suffice. Like nearly everyone else in a town of more than ~2k it'd be a 50/50 shot to survive.

I could get frozen food smoked/cured for long-term "room temp" storage but the problem with that is you can't hide the smell of preparation and if you're in town, the smell of food prep makes you a giant target. Then of course, there's still no water. I don't own an axe, so would need to somehow obtain one, and start using it tomorrow to have enough wood cut, split, seasoned, and piled for next winter, which would again make one a target, can't hide the smell or all of the light from burning wood.

Martial Law wouldn't come anywhere near close to mitigating the savagery we'd see after 10-14 days without any electricity.

lake oahe 1/4 mile from house..check

And neither you nor your family would survive drinking the water straight outta the river, especially not once everyone upstream started using the river like people use rivers in the rest of the world IE: washing, waste disposal, etc. Our immune systems aren't built for that in the US or Canada. Not enough trees down that way to provide enough heat source to purify water AND make it through winter very many times.

I have enough booze, and bottled beverages to last close to a month, freezers a plumb full, however the generator will only last for a couple days.

At least I could stay drunk while mrs johnr figures it out.

Wild game and fish will last only slightly longer than remaining food @ grocery stores. You'd see armed guards over nets and fish wheels, we'd be lucky if the Mo had an appreciable number of fish in it after ~2 seasons. Deer and non-migratory game birds would be gone before July 4th. Migratory birds would be all but gone by this time next yr.

Very young, very old, and inferm folks would mostly be gone in 30-45 days. The 75-90 day mark would see another large die off as folks unable to procure medications would be next. Blood pressure/heart rate control, diabetics, and then the "Zombie Apocalypse" would be more or less a real-life thing when the folks on daily anti-depressant/anti-anxiety and/or opiates for chronic pain medications ran out.

How long would you expect the 3 dams on the MO upstream from you would last without any ability to run their control structures? Without them, we'd be back to the MO in it's ~1940's banks and when the dams went, most of the fish would woosh on down to LA with the water.
