What is the purpose of this?

Noticed this thing on the left side of the legs of my Blackstone. Skimmed owners manual because I was curious, but I'm not going to actually read it. I can't imagine a purpose for it, but know I have seen something similar before without giving it a second thought.

Spring pin latch. Is there a shelf that folds down ? or do the legs fold up ?

That makes sense... I bought it from another guy, so never had to set it up. The legs are folded underneath prior to assembly, so probably pinned underneath during shipment.:;:thumbsup

That's good news. I gave it a quick Google, then decided someone on here would know at a quick glance, so took the easy route. Figured there was a pretty good chance I'd get called out as a dumbass, but dignity is a luxury I cannot afford.
