Hornady Critical defense. It'll take down a moose (really, it happened), retains some mass and weight through automotive glass, and won't go through 6 layers of Sheetrock killing the neighbor next door if you have to use it in your home. Another nice thing about Hornady CD rounds is the canelure (sp?) on the bullet. When you load and unload a round many times it starts to push the bullet back into the case causing excessive pressure and potentially leading to "kaboom!" if you fire that round. The canelure gives you a gauge to see if that bullet needs to be removed and thrown out.
Speer Gold Dot would be my 2nd choice.
