I have told my devils lake story too many times; i will spare you all. As far as wifey -- yes she normally backs down - unless if its storming and lightning on the water -- then i do :)

HELL, Just go down to Bismarck's Fox Island ramp with a tall one, and watch the talent put their boats in the water. Sure to get a good giggle!

Patience at the ramps, not everyone that owns a boat launches it 3-4 times a week, maybe only twice a month so probably not quite as smooth as many others. But yes, people need to get everything in the boat before even getting in line, not when your backed down the ramp.
Time Wasting activities at a boat ramp:

1. Not having your boat loaded and ready to launch before it’s your turn.

2. Having someone hold your boat @ the launch ramp rather than the courtesy ramp.

3. Clogging a lane upon retrieval by starting to empty your boat without getting out of the way for the next person to be able to use the ramp.

4. Fixing non-functional things while in a launch/retrieval space. Go to the courtesy dock or get it on the trailer and get up and out of the way.

5. Stopping all launch/retrieval progress while Getting/giving a fishing report. Do your yapping when you’ve cleared the crowd. Pretty much nobody cares how or where you caught 75 12”ers today.

6. When you’re in line to launch/retrieve, that’s NOT the time to head for the outhouse. It’s not the time for your partner to head for the outhouse. When you DO use the outhouse, don’t block any lanes headed to or from the launch. Go park and walk back.

7. Cleaning station is another place to keep things moving. If you can’t yak AND clean fish, STFU and clean fish.

All anyone can ask is that you’re ready when it’s your turn and you don’t WASTE time. WASTING time is what’ll heat up the crowd behind you.

If you have an experience level that requires you to back down the ramp slow, take your time and do it right. Then once you’ve launched/retrieved, do your best to quickly completely clear everyone waiting to launch/retrieve.

I take exception to #6. When you got to go, you got to go! ...rockon... But I will tie up to the courtesy dock if there is one available.

Actually, #1 should be:

1. GET OFF YOUR DAMNED PHONE!!! Don't be yapping on it, don't be scrolling on it, don't be texting on it, don't be buying your license, don't be trying to download apps for maps/contours, crank bait depths, running electronics, running your trolling motor, monitoring your lithium batteries, etc. Do any/all of that stuff somewhere and sometime when you're not in line to load/retrieve.

4.5. If you have to open the battery hatch and/or take the hood off of your motor, get off the ramp. Diagnose and fix once you're out of the way.

#8 don't park like a dick head , trailer taking up another spot or behind another trailer
8.5, if you don't have a boat/trailer, get out of the boat/trailer parking spots.

8.75, I think everyone likes to see kids having fun on, in, and/or around the water, please have the courtesy and good sense to have your children doing those fun things away from where boats are launching/retrieving. If you ignore that courtesy/responsibility, there's a fair chance they may receive the messaging from an adult that isn't you and that message may or may not be delivered within your preferred parenting style.

I take exception to #6. When you got to go, you got to go! ...rockon...
Then get your rig out of the way. Don't say in line, get out of the way including if it means going to the back of the line. Don't expect your partner to finish their "business" before It's your turn, get out of the way. Don't block the road/trail down to the ramp by parking @ the outhouse, get out of the way!

This isn't about me and my wish to get on the water sooner, it's plain old manners vs. rudeness. If you have to go to the back of the line, you've inconvenienced yourself and whomever you're fishing with. If you hold up the line you're inconveniencing every rig and it's occupants behind you.

Everybody @ the ramp wants to fish/get on the water just as much as the people in every other rig @ the ramp. Issues @ the ramp are NOT about who's the fastest off/on the trailer. Issues @ the ramp occur when you begin to WASTE the time of everyone behind/around you.

Courtesy docks would be nice. Unfortunately very few places have them, and with low water levels we're having to use low water ramps with even less ramp space and parking.

I was on Horsehead a couple of years ago... the trailers were parked in the grass all the way out to the gravel road and I want to say three people just randomly blocked in about 10 trucks/trailers who were parked along the fence on the west end of the parking area. I couldn't believe my own eyes... I'd have done terrible things to someone's equipment if they did that to me.

I haven't been back to that lake since that day.

Can't say I've witnessed much of this stuff, but reminded why I avoid busy times if at all possible.

I've had guys who just pulled boat out draining it park behind multiple rigs. That's fine AS LONG AS YOU MOVE when someone walks up to one that you're blocking!! Stop what you're doing and move a bit so they can get out!!
