So I make at least 3 who've inadvertently provided false information on the poll which provides but and inkling as to why paper surveys are slightly less useful than TP because they're too hard, scratchy, and don't absorb well.

Given the amount of snow on the ground now, G&F airplanes oughta be in the air every day the wind is 10 or less getting an initial count as well as keeping an eye on herd/health survival with this much snow packed into thermal cover this early in the winter, given that we're still 2wks away from the official start of winter.

If you were including me in that count, my poll answer was correct, the post I made was not. I have since corrected my post but my poll answer was correct.

But your point regarding the surveys is correct. I know for spring turkey they want us to fill out what days we hunted on the calendar portion of the paper. I know they want this every year but every year I do not keep track of it and when they send the form, it's a guess for the most part what days I did or did not hunt.

Who's arguing and fighting ? Nothing wrong with talking about a subject and getting input from all directions in hope of improving something.

Just wait for it. It'll show up. It's just a matter of time before the groups splinter and get it going. Usually it's the rifle boys bitching about the arrow flingers or vice versa, but I'm keeping my options open at this point in the thread.

As far as the improvement goes, I've tried to improve this process for several years and have had numerous discussions with Mr. Jeb Williams about this issue and have stated that I would be his biggest proponent if the ND GNF would just show me the scientific data that drives their decision making process. There are several posts from me about such interactions. I've investigated the ND GNF's survey process for white tails and how many times they have performed a survey for white tails in the past 13 years for not only 2G, but for most of the other hunting units in the state. I was NOT IMPRESSED at what I found. To be totally honest with you, I'm tired of hearing whines and cries from hunters that have neither the drive, nor the inclination to become informed about the process and would prefer to just drink a beer and bitch. Come to think of it, I just helped a fellow NDA'er tag out on a deer today and we shared a shot of whiskey and a couple beers to celebrate, so I'm going to refrain from a drunken rant. Though I'm sure it would add immensely to the entertainment of this thread.

This time of the year is "open season" on management in my opinion. Kind of nice to get the ball rolling for upcoming NDGF regional meetings

I've had 3 bow tags and 1 rifle tag in the last 3 years... I haven't filled a bow tag in forever, but I buy one every year on the off chance that I may have time to get out and actually try for one...

Posted, but didn't add my info. Past 3 years, 3 bow tags, 1 rifle, 1 muzzy. Took 4 years to get the rifle tag and 9 years for the muzzy tag.

Three archery tags, 0 rifle tags, don't bother to apply for muzzy. Are deer numbers at levels that game and fish feel the land can support? If not why are doe tags still being issued? Doesn't seem that complex.

Welcome pddc!! First post!! 1. The GNF don't know what the white tail deer numbers are so they can't answer your first question making your second question unanswerable as well. 2. It's NOT that complex to go out and survey for white tail deer. Several other states do it quite well.

6 tags in 3 years. ate 3 bow tags killed 3 WT bucks with the gun this years happened to be a 170" sorry had to brag a little. don't know how related this is but I have always thought that ND should put a slot limit on bucks. 4 or better on 1 side or 130"minimum. know way to many people that cry about never even seeing any of these monsters that our state can produce but then they show me a picture of a 2x3 that they shot on the second day of the season. believe it or not those little fellers DO grow up to be bigger.

130 net or gross? Boone and Crockett or sci scoring . Who scores it? Where are the check ins? Just for whitetail? How do you fund it?

I personally don't agree with a size minimum. Of course I would love to have shots at massive deer every time but I don't hunt for antlers...they don't taste real great. Personally I'm more concerned with filling a tag so I can provide some meat for the family.

Dang I miss the years between 2000 and 2008. I ate a lot of tag broth to go along with the does I shot. Not an angel. Had a few "brown it's down" hunts on the last day for a couple forks and a basket 8pt to add to the collection. I will say they weren't fawns.

Drones and deer with radio or GPS collars simple, my company uses drones now to do highway surveys over many miles low flying drones don't need a permit.

That technology would/could be a good addition to colleges that offer wildlife management classes IMO.
