I just got jacked by a "landowner". I was tooling down some county roads, not really doing anything other than making my way home. I remembered that I had picked up a Dunn County plat book. So I see a no hunting sign and decided to see if there was a name on it so I could test my ability to use the plat book. So I pulled onto a minimum maintenance road and check out the sign. Yea me, I found the spot and figured it out. So I see a Cat tractor pulling a disc pull onto the road behind me, so I pull off to the side so as not to hold him up. He stops, Cool I think I get to meet a landowner. Nope, I got asked to leave and told there is no hunting on "all of 28th St" . When I said fine he demanded I turn around right there and leave, of course he is blocking the road and suddenly realizes it. So he gets in his tractor and gets into the field. I turn around and leave, escorted on my bumper by Mr. Own the World. Is it any wonder hunting is declining.;:;banghead

WOW!! I would have never turned around right away. I would have continued to drive down 28th St. and found the next road out. I have never had this happen before, usually landowners are pretty decent people to me. I guess some just get on a power trip or they have had to many sconi's tearing up prairie trails and littering all over their land...

The road I was stopped on was 102nd ave and it dead ended ahead. I know the area fairly well and just wanted to mess with my new map. I might go drive up and down 28th all afternoon. He definitely had a chip on his shoulder and it could have escalated quickly. Last week I pulled into an approach 1/2mile west and checked out several deer that were feeding. I wonder what he would have done there. Last time I looked (disclaimer: I never look) it is not against the law to look at or for wildlife. I wonder if being on the approach would have fallen into the 66' from center of section line rule? This is the kind of stuff that makes me think that fishing is the way to go.

That sucks! Although Mr. Own the world maybe didn't even own the stuff you were looking at. A lot of jackwagons think they can herd hunters off land they don't even own!
Reminds me of a time a buddy and me were hunting unposted land. Did the plat book thing looking for a name. Tried finding name but never did get a phone. So we proceed to hunt this small chunk of land. No crops on it mind you..small slough in the middle of mostly pheasant habitat. We drop a couple nice Roosters and head back to truck just as a truck pulls right down in the ditch. He asked what we were doing...we said we saw a couple of Ruddies fly in there and didn't see posters so decided to go get them. He proceeded to say he lived just down the road ...(1/2 mile or better away) and no one ever hunted that stuff and was pissed that we did. I asked him if it was his land. He said NO..the owner lives about 3 hours away. This jackwagon was giving us grief for hunting unposted land that wasn't even his!! Ya can't fix stupid!

My tire spinning days are way behind me big fella. Just glad I didn't have one of the kids with to show them what to expect when dealing with a landowner. Little girl has a rifle tag that we could be using right now but screw it, maybe in November.

Never leave. Call a warden right then and there. Friend of mine did once out west when basically the same thing happened. Guy said he was trespassing yet his gps and map showed it as a public road and the land around it was school property. Told the guy he believed he was wrong as the land was owned by all taxpayers and he was impeding his hunting which is against the law in ND. Guy was really being a jerk so he said we'll let the warden see who's in the right, grabbed his phone, and called the RAP number asking for a warden to give him a call. As he did the guy called him a F'n A$$hole and took off. When the warden called him back he was pissed. Sounded like he knew the guy and this wasn't the first time. He wasn't sure what happened after that but the warden said he'd be taking care of it right away. Told him to go about his hunting, to have fun, gave him his cell number, and told him if he had any trouble again to give him a call right back.

Don't be bullied. Call the warden. It's not like an ass like that is going to let you hunt anyway so you have nothing to lose.

I think they can charge you a "Looking Fee"

Man I would have gone to straight down 28th. I can't stand it when they pull that crap and won't let them push me around because its give the feeling they can do it again to others.

Lycanthrope, you may be one of the reasons that lands are posted. Take your jackass remarks over to FBO, I hope nobody else falls for your troll.

Many stories come to mind when hearing this one --- including one when I was under the age of 14 and a landowner was shooting at a guy (who I did not know) that was on his land with a big buck down -- that was the most extreme. The deer was shot and it somehow floated over the road and fence and then collapsed. The land owner was 600 yards away and closing with a 30-30. The buck was pulled over to load up as the 30/30 bullets were getting closer. I was with my dad and his friend and we came up on this observing on a gravel road. Unbelievable.

Anyway ---pheasant hunting --- we received permission and just got to our spot. Some local yocal pulls up with a party of hunters (out of staters that were guided by local yocal). He gets out and says this property is posted. We nod ; he proceeds to take his party on the land. now its early but we called the party who owned the land - who was in Bismarck; they asked what kind of truck; we told them and then they said it was the neighbor who does not have permission. The owner wanted to talk to the jackhole but he wasn't going to listen to us or her--- ok so we have 3 fresh shorthairs (poorly trained young ones) that were crawling the walls in the kennel. We let em out as soon as da boys line up to do a push / they had labs and a springer. We immediately pushed so the GSPs went way out in front (what seemed miles) and you could see birds after birds launching into the air.

RANGEY SHORTHAIRS

Needless to say the jackhole came back to my truck bitched out my dad - who in turn just rolled up the window and said I don't know those guys. So the jackhole stayed at my truck for a while but had to move on with his clients. Needless to say once we hit electricity on those shorthairs we each picked up 3 birds in that spot. :;:thumbsup

Couple weeks ago I was in Vegas, being a scifi fan I decided to drive out to Rachel. Along the way, without using a map, I found the unmarked groom lake road. Drove down it for 15 miles, free range cattle everywhere. Made it to the border of Area 51, took some pictures, waved at the man sitting in the white suv, and headed back towards rachel for a burger.

During the entire 5 hour excursion, not one rancher, government agent, or sheriff told me to turn around, or accused me of trespassing. The most secure and secret block of land in the world, gives you more freedom to look around than the dicks of North Dakota.

I have a good friend who farms in western ND, I have been with him when a confrontation has ensued, he gets a real thrill out of being as aggressive and foul mouthed as possible with potential trespassers. Could not make me more uncomfortable. I do not like being harassed nor do I like being with someone who is doing the harassing. Was horrible. When he got back into the pickup and was as red in the face as a tomato, I said "wow, was all that necessary", he said they sure wont be back out to his land again.

I don't like it, but his land is posted clearly, and he apparently has had enough.

Rage is a powerful thing, and turns good people nuts.

Sounds like his rage has worked out in the past --- you get the wrong group of hunters with guns and numbers; you don't know any more now days what the hell will set someone off.

I remember one deal where we were young lads cruising roads looking for ditch birds early in the morn(about 19 years old). We go by a farm yard and ways later we encounter some nice ditch parrots to poke at. Jump out and blaze one down. Soon after a 4 wheeler comes flying out of the yard and almost rolls it as he approached us while jumping off as red faced as a baboons butt. He chews our ass for what seemed like an eternity with no pauses to speak. Claimed he had an 8th grade education and he was still smart enough to know we were too close to his farm. We nodded and let him belch. Once he calmed down we didn't say anything and took off like a banshee. Turned around and checked distance on the odo. Just shy of 1/2 mile. He was a piece of work.
