Just so we're clear on inheritance, or estate taxes. There is no such animal until you hit an estate value of $13.61 million for a single person who passes away.

The exemption is $27.22 million for a married couple.

For the record, not many of us will ever pay a dime in estate/inheritance tax to the federal government. However, if you do have to pay estate taxes on an estate above the respective limits, it starts at 18% for the first dollar above the exemption and reaches 40% once you have an estate worth $1 million above the exempted amount.

The city just paid another $50,000 to the company investigating the Minot police chief for a total of $100,000. It would be cheaper just to fire him.

Was just announced on the news that the city of Minot will pay $3.5 million to cover their share of the cost to replace the bridge in Velva because the 1.5 billion they are spending on the flood enhancement project will increase the flow of the river and the downstream city needs a new bridge to handle the faster flow.

This will open up a can of worms and the city of Minot will have to kick money in for every down steam city and bridge from here to Canada.

THE SPENDING HAS ALREADY GOTTEN WORSE AFTER YOU PEOPLE VOTED TO KEEP PROPERTY TAXS.

I have stated before in this thread that I had one of my vacant lots with no water, sewer, power, etc increase in value from $600 to $19,700 in three years. That is a 3,167% increase in value!

Death by taxes, I know with lots that have quit paying taxes on their lots because the lots are not big enough to build on or have water sewer lines run. Even habitat for humanity won’t take them for free. The government still thinks they are worth thousands and won’t even let you build a shop on it without a house. Such a sham.

There are too many negatives than positives as it was currently written. How are any of the lower populated counties going to get their funds needed to operate their county? There is A LOT more to it than people getting to save a couple dollars on property tax. For those of us who do not live in a larger populated county, we do not have squat for sales tax revenue. We can't just dip into another revenue source to cover the high costs of having to replace a bridge or do any type of "emergency maintenance". How are we supposed to fund our Schools?

There wasn't a single person that sat on any school board or country commission, in our area, that saw this as a good idea. And the entire reason was the un-knowns on how the rural areas would receive their funding.

Where do the funds come from now for emergency maintenance? The measure clearly stated all revenue as of 25’ would be replaced by the state moving forward. Any additional revenues each district would have control over to raise what they need through whatever method they choose. So if you were to still have the same money as you always did….. and are worried about extra funds…. Whwre do all these extra funds come from now if you can’t raise them locally? Im pretty confused by your logic….. if you were to get the same money as you’ve always been getting by the state replacing local collections….. but now are worried about raising extra money for emergency situations…. Who is paying for rhe emergency funding now? Is the state paying for it? Are other people paying for it? Whose money is paying for it? I just shake my head at some of the local control people rejecting local control. the measure literally was replacing the money you have yearly and now opening up all the tools to the local districts to raise capital for their own want list with a tax base that is no longer getting taxed for property. Im actually really confused why small communities wouldn’t jump all over it. We get 100% of our funding. And since no one is getting taxed now we can put a small fee or there and raise our funds for whatever we want are small communities not wanting to pay for their own wants and needs? Help me understand this logic

There was no definite explanation on how funds were going to be appropriated, other than "the state will replace the funds".

I talked to several school board presidents, 2 county commissioners and several city council members. And there wasn't a single person in favor of it due to the vague explanation on how funds were going to be re-appropriated back to local communities and their subsidiaries.

Again who will stop big investment groups like Blackrock, Bill gates, China, or vanguard from coming to the only state to not have a property tax? So say property tax.is abolished does the oil tax revenue take some pressure off of counties like Steele County which is one of the poorest in the state? All the slum lord property owners can keep building low income housing apartments that we still will pay for only for the property owners will keep getting richer. Again property tax issues is a local issue and not a state wide issue.
