Yeah, my beef is with the crazy increases year after year. And I look at the ridiculous projects going on around Bismarck year after year and there is obviously no desire to stop the crazy spending. The blank check needs to be halted and the best opportunity I see for that is this measure at this point. I saw some suggestions of writing into law that prop taxes can't increase more than X% a year and cannot increase more than once in X years. Maybe something like that would help slow the spend. If we vote No, we keep the status quo and that is not OK with me.

So the subdivision will get the same amount as 2024 indefinitely… With no stipulations on how it’s spent which is the actual issue we can all agree on. Then the subdivision can implement specials to make up shortcomings.

This solves nothing other than giving the people the feeling of sticking it to the government. Go ahead and call me scared of change if it makes you feel better. This is a poorly written attempt to solve the real problem. Everyone always says follow the money. It would be interesting to see who stands to save the most in this bill and and see where they stand.
This is about people that are sick of the government sticking it to them not sticking it to the government.

This solves nothing acdording to you and your non research you have done?....but keeping the same solves the problem? Yeah ok...my vote will be for it and yes you are scared of change....do some actual research on your own..hell call Becker himself and asked him questions. I HAVE..he answered anything I threw at him.....or stick your head in the sand try and get some round ball facts from nodak...say it solves nothing and continue to get the biggest dildo our locals can muster up and bend over for it...oh wait..that's right some guys like that....

I think alot of people would have been ok with those examples you gave. The problem is it will not happen. The warning shot to elected officials came with measure 2 years ago. It failed and then the elected officials blew it off, well now here we are years later with no change. The only option we have at this point is measure 4. I also believe if this passes or doesn't it will be a warning to local govt to start watching how you run everything or that power will be taken from you.(county commissioners, city commissioners, park boards etc..)

I'm not calling you scared, or anything else for that matter.... I'm just trying to get the message out that the sky in fact is not falling. The money that your local political subdivision took in from property taxes is to be replaced by money from the state.... How your local government spends those funds is none of my business because I probably don't live where you do, and is a problem for the voters of your city/town/county/township etc... don't like the way they spend money, vote them out...

I think the majority of people on here recognize the need for SOME taxes.... I do. For me this has nothing to do with "sticking it to the government and everything to do with the fact that I never truely own my home/property. Even when I do manage to get it all paid off, if I fall on hard times, the way it sits now, the county can and will take it from me.... I'm perfectly fine with helping pay to maintain roads, keep the school open, etc... If this passes, I will gladly cut a check every year equivelent to what I currently pay in property taxes to help with all that as long as it is necessary.... Necessary being the key word here....
I actually agree with you on most points and agree completely that taxes are way out of line. But the short of it is the government will find their funding, especially the way it’s written that we have to maintain the current level of spending. From the minot daily news, rep Houge-R said “Legislature would find $3.15 billion to replace property taxes by using money already being given to political subdivisions, spending from the state’s rainy day accounts and raising sales, income and gas taxes…It’s unlikely that we would do across the board cuts because that’s just not good judgment…Hogue said of the total in his scenario. “My point is, we’re not halfway there yet and we’ve already had 10% increases in our taxes, 5% general fund decrease. So we have to find somewhere else besides new taxes and budget cuts”.

That’s the proposed scenario and it still doesn’t cover the bill to fund us to 2024 levels.

It’s already laid out that we’re just going to pay out the ass elsewhere, and city specials can still boot you out of your home if you fall on hard times.

And Fester, Dr Becker had no answer to what this means for the economy and local businesses when the rest of the bill has to be picked up by increasing gas taxes, agricultural taxes, and commercial taxes. He said the state could make up any lost revenue by dipping into its reserve funding. Quote: “The state easily has the money”.

Not good enough for me. You are obviously brilliant and know the ins and outs of the bill so please explain how that will look and what you think the ramifications will be to our local businesses.

Wait so your telling me you called and talked to him…or was that a news snippet your referencing? Ramifications to local businesses?..as in the ones that receive the people’s money or a business that has to pay property tax?…sorry my brilliance is trying to figure out what you mean by ramifications to businesses…

No, that wasn’t a quote from when I spoke with him. That was his official comment to the minot daily news. And I’m referring to the proposed increases in commercial taxes and increases fuel costs and what that will do to business operations and our economy as a whole. What will it mean 5-10 years down the road when the dollar doesn’t go as far? What about a subdivision that was fiscally responsible this year but is now going to be punished by not allowing any increases in funding since they’re locked in to this years numbers? What if a small town like Richardton sees a population boom and can’t afford new infrastructure? You’ve done your research and spoke to Dr. Becker, so I look forward to your answers.

What about 150 years from now and the funding for school? What about 40,years from now when Richardton needs new roads? Pretty sure addressed this earlier..except the 150 years from now. Do you think Richardton is going to be denied infrastructure? I highly doubt that will take place. Again the sky is falling mentality. Increased fuel cost because we are assuming that’s where the increase will be? From talking to Becker and reading the information I don’t see where it states that fuel taxes will increase…at least not more than what they have already. Subdivisions that are fiscally responsible? City commissioners are who control spending in Bismarck any ways for any type of improvements..when have they been fiscally responsible? Small town from my understanding will have to get it approved..again this was addressed..I don’t for a second believe small town so and so will be denied any funds for something that’s needed…again sky is falling mentality.

An entire paragraph without a single answer.
How many times has this been addressed? CALL RICK BECKER for your answers. Do YOUR research…not from nodak angler. Think about that for one second. I could say Hoeven is gonna fund it….I mean really? If you want correct info go to the source. Make an informed decision on your vote(which you aren’t). I could say Rick Becker told me this or that..does it make it true? You are obviously concerned with the bill therefore to me a person should call and get the facts answered directly from the source if there is a concern. Nodakangler can make for a good conversation but I sure would not use it to make or base my vote off of.

My plan is to vote out any tax we can.
My tax liability is higher than my take home income, that just sits wrong with me.

Zero reason anyone should work over 50% of the year to pay taxes.
And here all this time I had heard panhandling was a good tax free gig. Well she- it. :ROFLMAO:

I’ve followed the bill for months. I wanted it to be an actual property tax relief solution. The fact that it’s gone up 50% in 3 years is ridiculous. Listening to Dr. Becker, reading articles, conversations with sitting representatives must not count as “doing my research”. I need to personally call Rick since he’s keeping secrets.

Look man it seems we’re actually on the same side. I just want to see a bill that doesn’t rob Peter to pay Paul while essentially freezing rates in place. I don’t for one second trust our legislators for “figure it out” when it needs to be changed. Nobody has been able to show me that won’t be the case. I’ll leave you to your dildos.

With all that research you did your questions were not answered…so yes I would say a phone call to the source is needed. You obviously still have questions…..

This. We can sit and argue how, what, when, who and how many years down the road blah, blah, blah…… the fact of the matter is we are taxed too much period in every aspect of life. This is entirely unsustainable at this point. The working class is carrying the load for both ends of the welfare spectrum. White collar welfare and bums. We’re tired. I’ll vote yes based on the principle that Johnr stated. The only way to shed taxes at this point is to vote them out.

Furthermore, I’d like to add that a lot of the discussion is based around who will pay what and how will taxes shift…. Were completely missing the point of what this bill is designed to accomplish and thats to get the people who are so wreckless and careless with out money to STOP spending. If the real issue (overspending) was addressed we wouldn’t need to argue who is going to pay for this or that and over taxation wouldn’t be an issue. That’s the bottom line here. We should all agree that the first and most important thing to come of this is state/countrt/city officials need to stop the spending and give their people a break. If they won’t do it then we either vote them out or we take matters into our own hands through measures as such.

$35,000,000,000,000 in federal debt and trillions more at the state and local
level even with property taxes is quite literally the best argument against
having any taxes going to any government

I pay for water and sewer infrastructure improvements already through my utility bill.
My street gets fixed and I get whacked with specials

Home insurance up over 30%, food up 20-30%, airlines & hotels up 30%,
gas and electric utilities up 20-25%. And that’s just a few examples.

All since 2021. THIS PROVES BIDENOMICS IS WORKING!!!

I am voting to eliminate property taxes, I hope spending gets slashed for once but
I doubt it, so am expecting to get whacked by other tax increases or a whole new
slew of taxes and get screwed over again.

You will own nothing and you will like it. Now get back to work peasants!

This is pretty simple:

Vote yes if you want the state to be forced to address this issue.

Vote No if you want nothing to change

If you vote “no” then you can never complain about property taxes again! Politicians know they can come up with a suitable alternative but they just don’t want to put in the work and make difficult decisions! It’s all fear mongering

There is no reason property taxes on a $350k home in WY is $2000 but in ND it is double!
