where does the money come from for these programs ? so they are taking from the struggling taxpayers and giving it to multi billion dollars companies.
The JSDC i believe is funded by city tax revenue, some of the programs on the website you linked appear to be state programs. These programs are seen as a investment in job creation and tax revenue, if you build or expand the property you will get taxed on your property at a higher amount in the future. The only multi-billion dollar business here i know of besides walmart is the ethanol plant and bean crushing plant. They pay i think about over 30 some dollars an hour starting with great benefits for entry level positions. There are probably 100 employees between the two and they bring in other monies from contractors working there and staying in town in motels, buying fuel, restaurants. also before the ethanol was there it was just ag land and taxed at a very low rate, now that land is much more taxable and after a 5 or 10 year break on the property tax it is quickly forgotten. I'd imagine other cities have similar programs. I assume you voted yes on the abolishment so i have to assume you have no problem with sales tax. because if that passed the way it was written it would double in ten years after the frozen amount of funds became not anywhere enough. along with state income tax. even if the idiots would have specified primary residents only (which i would have voted yes) we would see some increases in the future.

So you claim a 5 or 10 yr tax exemption stimulates business growth so wouldn’t no property tax also entice companies to move to the state on a larger scale ?

yes it would. but you got rid of a incentive to improve and expand. it would also cause land prices to rise and cause some serious land grabs. im in favor of temp. relief as incentives. not handing the world to them. have a good thanksgiving.

Temp relief…… you mean shifting the cost onto taxpaying middle class citizens to subsidize the increased infrastructure and services needed for business expansion? If a larger corporation is tax exempt who is paying their immediate demand and strain on the infrastructure? Oh yea let’s put it on the homeowners and other property owners.

Same can be said for those property developers that build houses in a new development, sometimes those first time buyers get tax breaks on purchasing that new home. Those would be the Cake eaters when taxes are involved someone is going to be eventually be baking the cake and some gets to eat it. It's unfortunate that many with lots of revenue really do get to bake their own cake and eat it too.

Incentive to improve and expand comes from increased revenue from increased sales therefore pushing the need to increase production. businesses that succeed do so themselves and don’t need to be propped up with public monies. businesses that need to be propped up with public monies fail when public monies used to prop them up dry up.
