Have you got a short simple draft you can post? Thanks!
I'm not the one bitching and crying like the liberal supporters of the Hairrs Walz campaign no Nov 6th. I don't have the strong vendetta to do away with property taxes like a few on here seem to. It doesn't mean I don't think those that spent time drafting the measure completely dropped the ball. If they want it that bad, then do better. They tried in 2012 and failed. One would think they would come up with a better plan in 2024. When most people fail at something, they learn and do it better the second time around. Apparently learning curve is high for some.

Yep. I would love another $3500 in my pocket every year. To not have an articulated plan of how funding would be distributed is pretty insulting to the voters and was the major reason the bill failed. Why was that part never figured out??? Dr Becker straight up admitted there was no mechanism in place and they would figure it out after it was passed. What a bunch of short-sighted BS. He admitted that additional taxes would be levied if there were shortcomings. Another crock of shit. If they narrowed it to primary dwelling and had actual figures to show what and how it would be distributed, it would have passed in a landslide. It was a shiny lure that got a lot of people to bite. I voted no because the way it was written solved nothing and had the potential to cause more problems. I’m not going to send shit down the river just to show that I’m pissed. Call me a pussy all you want, I call it being a responsible voter. The more I talked to Rick and the supporters, the more it seemed like he was in it for another future run, or had some bigger friends pushing him to be the face.

I'm not saying it doesn't suck, I'm just saying "do better" to those writing the measure. Property taxes are not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. If they would have put something reasonable together that had real answers, it would have passed without any problem at all. I've said it before and I'll say it again, it completely pisses me off they had 12 F'kn years to come up with a good plan and a supportable measure, and they completely dropped the ball. If anyone wants to be pissed about something, this should be the focus.
We can't make law by Initiated measure. we can vote for something but it is the legislator and governor to write the actual law. an example is the medical marijuana that was voted in.

Got this from a rep a few years back. Don't know if you can blow it up or zoom. This shows how complex our present system of revenues and spending are. October 2016. I would bet it is more complex now.

Becker is a wind bag. He has no answer for any questions brought to him about where the funding would come from after property tax would be abolished. His only answer was the legislature will figure it out. He can suck farts and eat a dick.

Maybe next time the bill will be written appropriately, and it will pass. Since i voted against it. This is what i voted against (see screenshot). If this would have passed all their customers and all residents of NoDak whether you used their store or not would foot the bill to keep the street maintained and accessible, maintained their sewage and water needs, their storm water needs, and police and fire protection. How the hell was this supposed to be good for the average guy?
This did not wipe out property tax just for walmart. It was every for profit business in every township, county and city in the state. How in the hell would you expect that to be replaced. Oh yeah, "They'll figure it out"
edit; and notice who gets the break on their tax bill. Some rich beyond your dream's ovarian lottery winners' descendants of sam walton from Arkansas?

The people spoke with the vote. Paying no property taxes and getting fucked, lost out to paying to have yourself get bent over. Who would have thought

You mean common sense and practicality won out to hatred and knee jerk reactions.

See this is fun, both sides can play that game 🤣

I would never call it common sense. Just because the politicians treat our tax dollars as monopoly money. We shouldn't encourage them to keep playing the game. Maybe you are one of the players spending? o_O

City/County Property Tax Exemption

Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corporation - New or expanded businesses or enterprises may negotiate for up to five years full of partial exemption from local property taxes. A second five-year exemption may apply if the business uses agricultural products grown in North Dakota.

This was what I was talking @bravo about in terms of how local government can help property owners. Only a knuckle dragging mouth breather would have a hardtime understanding.

Guilty as charged but not sure what you’re referring to.
No its just an inside joke amongst patrons not referring to you 😉
You are right, sorry for wanting to control my property, and my income. Silly American that I am.
Is there a ring I should also be kissing?
I get it, it sucks for those who live in oil revenue country but if you look at the link I posted earlier on counties with the highest property taxes you will see that the top 2.in the state are in the red River valley. Perhaps with future oil revenue coming in with new oil leases and the keystone pipeline completion we can rethink the idea of lowering property taxes because like it or not north dakota does not think it's a great idea to abolishing property taxes outright. Sorry johnr and others who are affected by high property taxes and overall price of goods. It's ironic that you guys out west live in the heart of oil and still pay more per gallon for fuel and that's just wrong, it should be the other way around in regards to prices. Let's hope for a brighter future for everyone in this country because for the last four years we have all took it in the pants. MAGA

I know this is high jacking a thread with a non-related topic but it has to do with investment firms not just controlling energy but also other topics like property investments.

yeah, i think a temporary property tax break as a incentive for a new business to locate in jamestown or expand a existing footprint of business and/or hire more employees is good.
I know here it has brought in quite a few jobs and help nudge businesses into expanding over the years. There are also interest buyback programs to help entice companies to build, remodel, or expand. These programs come with stipulations, it's not just a "windfall", like total abolishment of property tax would be. The businesses have to comply with a agreement to, for example, retain a certain number of full-time employees etc.

where does the money come from for these programs ? so they are taking from the struggling taxpayers and giving it to multi billion dollars companies.
