If you like taxes vote to keep them. If you are tired of the government taxes and want to own your property, vote to get rid of them. And if they are voted out, all you tax lovers can still send a check to demo doug. He can spend it wiser than you anyway.

I like these conversations to see where other people stand. I am not above saying I may be wrong(Allen ). I also like to hear other people’s ideas some are good some I don’t think are, but everyone should be able to express what their views are even if it gets things a little heated. One thing I think we all can agree on is dam don’t we live in the best country on earth and IMO the best state in the country where we can express these views without having to be worried about being stoned to death or who knows what else? Go U.S.A!!

I remember reading an article about the cost of educating a kid from kindergarten through 12 and I can’t find it. I believe they said something to the effect obviously depending on where you live but was betweeen 75k and 100k.

I have an open mind to eliminating property tax, but also question what the new funding formula would be.

On my modest house in Bismarck, my taxes for 2022 were about: $700 to the city, 300 to the county, 300 to parks, 950 to the school. I'm not naive enough to think that I'm magically going to have $2000 more in cash at my disposal every year. We all know government spending is incredibly inflated, but I doubt that's going to change.

5 billion expenditures w/o federal funds. Legacy holds 8. That 8 will be gone before you know it --- which in m opinion it shouldnt exist in the first place.

If your not gonna reduce spending then what are going to do -- -pull a minnsota and redistribute the wealth? That is what this is all about.

I have yet to find a single person that voted against it that would still vote against it. They are pissed. Most have had their property taxes go up at least 50% since then and many 100%+

No, just go until that legacy fund is gone then use other tax sources. It’s not really that complicated. Then the legacy fund will replenish and they can use that money again. Or even more simply use a small portion of the fund combined with numerous other tax forms. Like I said they’re only limited to their imagination. But here’s the thing people forget. Property taxes were never intended to be used to fund education. That’s what the school land trust is for. So the money from property taxes used for schools can simply be replaced by the school land trust. Which has billions in it and is constantly growing. They just need to find a balance of funding sources. And make much needed cuts to state and local budgets.

I’m not going to get my hopes up. Just in this thread it seems pretty split and this is a fairly conservative site for the most part. I wouldn’t bet a substantial sum on it happening

Few thought the medicinal marijuana bill would pass either. Personally, I would have wrote the initiative to eliminate them on one’s primary residence. That would pass quite easily I’m sure.

I will 100 percent vote yes for elimination of property tax. I am not sure where they will get the money from to run everything that property tax pays for but I will take my chances. In the last 4 years my property tax has gone from 5100$ to 8700$, this raising of property tax every year is not sustainable and seems crimina” the way they are doing it.

So would this give out of state landowners and farm land owners a HUGE tax break? I get eliminating property tax on home but we need to make sure the out of state entities are paying their share. I could only imagine the land grab if property taxes were Eliminated on all properties.

Oil revenue, currently our state punishes the oil companies with an enormous tax burden, a great percentage of that goes into this legacy fund, that is busting at the seems and about ready for Burgum to give it to the good of our country.

We can either stop that and continue to punish home owners, or continue and use that to fund the schools, streets, curbing, etc.

Or likely there are hundreds of other sources.

I do agree with you though on the people we put into Bismarck not being the best, just the ones that are most available, and they of course can be bought just like the big guy.

Does this just eliminate property tax for homeowners? Or for all property owners? Businesses? Businesses can afford to pay the tax especially if it doesn’t come out of my pocket!
