Thats why taxes are low in WY because the fossil fuel industry pays most of the taxes. No income tax, low says and property tax. Nothing wrong when the tax burden isn’t laid in the lap of the common folk. People in WY also don’t keep electing RHINO politicians that keep taxes and spending high. I find it funny people in ND complain so much about taxes when they keep electing the same people.
The fossil fuel industry pays the lions share of the taxes and passes that bill onto their customer, which in turn passes it on to their customer, which ends up on the shoulders of the consumer. Businesses could give two shits less about how much taxes they pay, they just pass on the bill.

Energy is fairly cheap in WY so not sure who is really paying WY’s tax bill. Must be the residents of ND. There is a reason taxes are cheaper in WY , they don’t spend like a bunch of democrats. Having industry foot the tax bill has been working out fairly well in WY except for the green scam taking a hit to the states fossil fuel industries

Surprised by this info below, assume its true but who knows.
Anyways, if its true then maybe we should hit up sleepy joe for some federal cash cause the feds love to hand out cash and we Nodakers could use some relief, at least get us to the middle of the pack for "free" cash handouts

These states have paid to the federal government in taxes more than they receive back in aid. New Jersey has the largest negative net federal funding of -$2,368 per resident, followed by Massachusetts with -$2,343 per resident.
The ten states with the lowest net federal funding per resident are:
  1. New Jersey (-$2,368)
  2. Massachusetts (-$2,343)
  3. New York (-$1,792)
  4. North Dakota (-$720)
  5. Illinois (-$364)
  6. New Hampshire (-$234)
  7. Washington (-$184)
  8. Nebraska (-$164)
  9. Colorado (-$95)
  10. California ($12)

This really means little to nothing. This money includes all farm program spending and all military spending. Both of which we have a shit pile of. Remove those so that it is basically welfare received and we’re most likely in the bottom 10%

"with less tax money coming in maybe the people in charge will have to spend it more wisely"...rofl...

All our governments, state, city and county don't know how to cut back because over the last I don't know how many years with the oil tax and raping Joe public they have had an unlimited supply of funds. Can't cut any assistance programs for the less fortunate because they squeal the loudest when they don't have the help from the government.
Minot public schools is a good example, a few years back they decide that they wanted more money to build a new high school and update existing schools, so asked the citizens to vote on a property tax increase, on the first vote it got voted down. So lets bring it to another vote, the second time they voted on it they did the vote in December or January and hardly any older citizens got to the polls because the weather was shitty or they were down south for the winter. My property taxes increased over $400 plus for a year just for the school taxes alone. Basically gave Minot public schools an open check book.

Minot School Board looks at deficit of $1.3 million

MINOT, N.D. (KXNET) — The Minot Public School Board met this week to talk about opening the new high school in Minot, however, one major concern right now is the budget.

Minot’s elementary school’s enrollment is down about 100 kids from this time last year. This is a part of the issue that they are facing when it comes to their deficit. School leaders say they are down around $1.3 million in their budget because of the low enrollment.

They say the problem is only getting worse, and they could be down $6 million by this fall. The school board is now asking the schools to see if they can come up with creative ways to save money.

“Otherwise, they may end up closing an elementary school, but they are looking at every other option first. We’re looking at everything from soup to nuts. Everything from how we enroll kids to which courses we’re offering. How do we balance that in a way that we can operate and still keep the needs of our students in the forefront,” said Mark Vollmer, the superintendent of Minot Public Schools.

He encourages the public to attend the school board meetings. They want to hear your suggestions on ways they can creatively save money for their budget.

WHAT A FUCKING JOKE!! 🤬

Less kids = less money from the government.

Superintendent Vollmer is retiring July 1st, he could give 2 shits what was and has been spent.

Feel sorry for the new guy taking over.

So know one looked at any trends and now all of a sudden oops we are down on elementary kids BUT we just built a multimillion dollar High School that probably should have been built 20 years ago

if you have less kids it should take less money shouldn't it?
No, not really. 100 kids split up amongst 13 grades is 7 per grade level. That probably one kid taken from each individual elementary class. So it’s not like you can cut a whole class based on that, or really much for support staff. The lights and heat costs the same. Now, if this happens for three years straight, then you’re talking. But with 90 percent of the budget going to staff, it’s tough to cut costs with blips in enrollment like this. The schools funding formula doesn’t really accommodate the situations either. It’s a challenge for sure, then throw in capital outlay expenditures like new buildings and you’ve got a mess.

Here’s the interesting thing on Minot. They no doubt gained well over 100 kids since the boom. I believe they have five elementary schools. That’s only 20 kids per school. On a K-6 school that’s 3-4 kids per class is all. And they are large classes. So what’s happened is their budgets grew exponentially during the boom and when the enrollment goes back down they don’t want to cut budgets. They figure they can simply raise property taxes anyway. Which is what they’ve always been able to do because there is essentially no accountability. But with the impending vote on property tax elimination, and with current polling in favor of it, they’re back is against the wall

Unquestionably this has and does occur. I don’t know specifics of course. It just doesn’t always equal out when you lose kids is my point. Or gain and overspend then just hung out like this.

The problem in NW ND is that for the last 18 years we’ve been educating far too many students that aren’t even residents of ND

I count 13 elementary schools in Minot on their website (11 in town and 2 at the base).

Are you counting the church schools too? Been twenty years since I lived there and they had about half a dozen then. Public schools that is

Just heard yesterday that the new high school is $3 million over budget. And its not even close to being finished.

I believe their plan is to make central campus a middle school(6th,7th and 8th grades) that would make 3 middle schools.

Both high schools would then be 9,10,11 and 12th grades.
