I'm pretty confident saying that numbers are probably 40% of normal around me between cameras we've been running and being out and about more. My go to areas are just not the same for consistent activity and numbers. I've been on the hunt for a couple genetic misfits this year and they have done well to elude me and last two nights got my daughter out with Saturday seeing a total of 2 does 5 fawns and a black cat with Sunday night turned up nothing.

This article comes to that same conclusion

Talked to a farmer out there who had 1800 acres of corn...he only saw 4 deer total while combining.
Did 550 acres of corn pulling a grain cart and didn't see a single deer and only 2 pheasants. Kind of made my stomach sink. Hope this winter is mild. The critters could use a break.

This past Friday the wife and I traveled to the Forest River Colony, 60 miles. It was such a nice day we proceeded on tour through out the rural back roads Northwest of GF. Made about 200 miles total. Saw only 2 whitetail doe. Bright spot is we saw 3 coveys of Hungarian Partridge with at least 20 plus in each covey.

KDM is correct. We need a mild Winter!

Pretty sad out there. Game & Fish need to tell the whole story on deer population, not the BS just to collect the "all mighty dollar".
Deer numbers are " way " down. Need to get their planes in the air after first ground covering snow. Any farmers will tell you the same on the numbers. They are the ones out there on a daily bases along with the rural carriers.

I think it's very important that all sportsman fill out the survey, its one of the best overall tools that the gnf have to determine how many tags they will give out next year. Granted new technology is useful advantage in some areas but a deer survey is by far a better tool then a drone flight footage when there are so many variables to consider.
Also there all kinds of articles online from this year and last talking about the harsh winterkill and the areas infected with the cwd that one can use to make their own conclusions by.

Shot the first buck of my life today. I'm excited to put some venison in the freezer! My son wanted to hold out and sit the rest of the week so he passed the opportunity to me.

Had two neat ones show up on cam early this morning....We'll see if we can get my boy on one of 'em.

No, it was windy and I forgot the stakes in the truck 🤦‍♂️

We sat tucked under a tree and played the wind. Had two does come out at 200 yards and he followed, nose to the ground. When he went in the trees I hit a grunt sequence and he came in at 75 yards 5 minutes later. He was on a mission.

Still have a bow tag and wanting to get back out there with the blind! I'll put the stakes IN the pack this time....

Here
I agree with the cooking method, s/p & butter, maybe a little garlic. I'd do without the weeds:

I always have an electric fry pan going when we cut deer. All those little close to the bone chunks never make it to the burger pile. Salt and pepper fried in butter and a cold toddy, don't get no better than that. LB

At the NWA we always had the tenderloin and back-straps for breakfast.
Cut in one inch thickness.
Dip in Buttermilk.
Bread with fry magic.
Fry in old cast iron pan with 1/4 inch or so of very hot oil.
Cook about 1 1/2 to 2
minutes per side.
Eggs over easy.
