decent family plans run you upwards of $1200 out of pocket i think. our group with dental and vision is $1240. i think they can be gotten on the exchange for a bit less. but, $500 deductible?! i am not even sure there is such a thing. $2500 per person or $5000 family would be more common and realistic. go to any of the insurance provider websites and you can shop. healthcare.gov is a decent place too if you are looking to have it subsidized a bit. most families qualify for a least a small subsidy. some can be pretty big.

If $500 was available, given their ages I wouldn't buy it. You'll pay a lot less for a $2500.

$500 deductible for myself and my wife would cost us around $3200 a month today where a $1750 deductible is around 2800 a month

Jesus, how do you afford that.

I might not ever be able to retire.

I retired at 65 and 9 months. I worked till my wife was 65. That is the reason I worked the extra 9 months. Being on Medicare and Blue Cross supplements I pay about 325.00 a month for both and they pay better than the United Healthcare insurance I had when I was working.

I wonder the samething how people can afford to retire before they can get Medicare and Supplements or Advantage plan.

I had the same last year and it was very good insurance. I ended up in the ER with pneumonia and broken ribs that took a turn for the worst. BCBS sent out year end statement what they paid and it was right at $ 100K . Our out of pocket was $ 1500.

This year BCBS dropped this area so with another company , united I believe , they don't pay near as well as BCBS. What a racket, retire and think you can relax and get away from paperwork but it gets more complicated shopping for insurance every year.

Business owner having to pay the entire premium but have to claim it as income.

I could be wrong but I believe once you go on social security and that is your only income you can go on the market and get rates based on your income, which should only be your social security check or checks if married.

That income based insurance and RX cost is BS . Most meds are damn near free for people who haven't worked most of their life. Us poor bastards that worked long and hard are still paying for the slackers.
insulin is $ 35 without insurance and $ 109 for insured people plus they have to pay insurance premium. a Iv'e looked at the "free" ads for all sorts of medical stuff , it's only free for those who don't have much if any SS income.

Don't get me wrong, we should all have access to health care but dang it smarts when you have tried hard all your life and then see how much others pay who didn't work much.

I got the same kind of statement from Blue Cross. In the year 2025 all Dr visits with a 45000.00 foot surgery and knee procedure and follow up visits over 75000.00 and my out of pocket was less than 300.00

I wonder what or who dictates the regions insurance companies serve for retired folks ? For 2026 they dropped our zip code so we had to go insurance shopping, I was still doctoring from last years misadventure and we have already paid more out of pocket than we did last year. BCBS is good insurance , we've had it for 34 years and not one complaint , this is the first year it wasn't available in our area.

I know lots of people had Blue Cross Next Blue and it was dropped. Making people scrambling for other insurance.
