Which New Truck Do I Need?

I learned a tip about longevity when in a campground south of Livingston, MT a few years ago. The "teacher" was a retired freight company owner. He referred to his 1T Dodge diesel dually as a pickup, not anywhere near a "real truck" in his experience.
Since he had a 5th wheel camper and didn't need a pickup box for hauling daily stuff, he had bought a chassis cab and added a flatbed to it. A pickup box costs $4000-$6000, so not buying one makes a good down payment on a flatbed.
Chassis cabs are viewed by manufacturers as more likely to get commercial use so they don't have quite the HP and torque numbers of a consumer model. However, they are expected to last almost 3X the use before likely needing an engine overhaul.

I would check with Ram 1500 options mine came with a trailering package trailer brakes included. I believe they have an air bag and height system that you can adjust from the cab. If I would have ordered mine I would have added that.

I looked up the price of the air suspension system for Ram 1500 is $2500. May be better off with air bags.:;:huh

It came in around 11K below sticker (so a lot). Tax is 5%. Licensing is trivial considering. I tried really hard to buy from Eide but they could not find a 2015 with my specs but Houston Ford in Pine River MN was able to so that is where I bought it from. So far I have been super impressed with their service. Nate was my contact and he was excellent to work with long distance.

I passed on the gaudy mirrors. I see a lot of trucks with those nowadays though.

Sunday afternoon I drove from Fargo to the cabin in northern MN. About 175 miles, mostly 55-65mph hour zones. I was averaging 28.0 and then this picture was taken Monday after I let the wife drive for like 20 mins (lead foot). 2015 3.5L ecoboost, 3.55 gears, tow package. Not the conditions I drive in everyday obviously, but impressive nonetheless.
