The supply chain issues that we are seeing really has shown how weak and at the mercy we are to other countries along with our shipping system. It doesn't matter if your talking trucks or bicycles......they have a ton of different suppliers for all the parts and if you're missing ONE part, you don't have a product. There are so many shipping containers held up right now that who knows what could be missing for one product or another. Let alone factory closures and slowdowns that hurt output. It seems our domestic single source products are slowly getting caught up but you never know what you may or may not be able to get. I fully understand we are in a global economy and depend on other countries to make many of our items. I'll be curious to see how or if we adjust at all to this whole shortage of products and parts of products.

Whatever happened to get to where your going with what little you have! It’s a luxury not a Necessity
How do you know crap for brains. My wife had back surgery and can not take the stiff ride of the 3/4 ton. So we sold our 37 ft 5th wheel and downsized camper and soon pickup. Besides if someone wants to blow their money while it still has some value who do you think you are to critisizem? Karen?

But not sure if i said this but the 97 is a 2500, diesel, 5 speed manual, positive traction, 4:10 gears and have not found a chevy or ford able to out pull it. Just the way it is, Dodge you know.

Give me a break. A 97 cummins with a 5 speed was rated at a whopping 440 ft lbs of torque. Most of the new gas pickups, regardless of make, could probably out pull it. The new diesels have around 1000 ft lbs of torque, regardless of make.

Kind of off topic, and I just thought that was a funny post.:;:stirthepot

My car is a 77 with 80,000 miles and the PU a 97 Dodge with 98,000 miles and i hope to get the titles with my next payment next month. Wife has a 98 Jimmy with just under 200,000 miles but she has the title. Running strong yet.

Glad i was able to spell prostate right with my record of spelling words. db

Own a 52 Buick once so that was about 70 years old and it was gone about 68 years ago for $25, paid $50, but 84. Must not a been a flathead as those ran forever.
You're making payments on a 44 year old car and 24 year old truck?

Isnt it cheaper to just pay off a vehicle and stick new parts into it instead of having a payment?

Chicomms control our ability to make trucks. Anybody else see that as a national security issue??

Our government is selling us down the river. Should be a law against it - should have to have a backup supplier in the US in place and properly funded.

Hmm. smells like socialism to me.

Hmm. smells like socialism to me.

properly funded by the corporation (and passed onto the consumer obviously) - ready to produce critical components if/when necessary

basically ensure that major corporations can meet our country's critical needs can be met

no different than gov't making sure corporations fund containment/management of hazardous waste they produce, labor laws, etc.

if you're gonna produce a critical product for sale in the US you have to demonstrate the ability to produce it here if there's a war, if China decides to put the squeeze on by releasing a new flu, etc.

Yes if you can find the parts and have the ability.

I'll never buy new again, you lose $10k or more just driving it off the lot. Let someone else take that hit and pay cash for quality used and you'll be way ahead.

Not sure thats true right now. Have you looked at used prices? New price tag is always going up but it hasn't shot up like used has. At this point i would be money ahead to sell my 80k mile pickup and buy new off the lot.

Every used diesel 3/4 or one ton I look at has close to 100k miles on it and they want next to new price. Think I'd rather buy new and get all the warranty.

I really wish I'd have bought a new one a year ago but I waited as I wanted to see how corona was going to screw up markets and such. Now the prices have jumped and can't get what I want either.

It's still true, people are just too dumb to pay these used prices because they are in a bind because new vehicles aren't available. It's a bubble similar to the housing market years ago. Watch the prices plummet when things get back to normal, whenever that might be.

Well guyz now is not the time to purchase a new or used vehicle iffin you can hold off, dealers can't get product for one reason or another,to get inline for a new purchase dealers are getting sticker price or more with little or no factory rebates, dealers are required to request a sold order build from the factory and wait until request is accepted before order is placed which takes weeks,as stated above factories have 1000's of built vehicles sitting waiting for these micro chips coming from china to complete the build(thank biden),some dealers are sitting on said vehicles but can't sell or demonstrate without these chips but one can look and wish...this is driving up the prices on used vehicles big time as dealers have limited new vehicle sales on new and fewer trades to sell as used so good quality used vehicles are bringing bookoo bucks....I'm told as of this month GM HD trucks are 5-6 months out for build,GM light duty (1500) trucks will have a new generation pickup by next spring(build stars this winter, maybe),GM in still building out 2021 1500 trucks (current body style)and will fire -up 2022 1500 product ( old body style) sept 2nd for a few weeks phasing out certain option's and body sheet metal.

You guyz with a bun in the oven (order placed) should keep in contact with your dealership sales rep who can tract the build for you via "dealer business center",here everything from build date to any hold-ups they will let you/dealer know once the center is contacted, otherwise it's sit and wait.

FYI.

If you can find quality used. Seems like no one takes care of vehicles anymore, especially if it's coming off a lease or from someone who trades every few years they have no incentive to take care of it

Mostly all tech is made over seas. I would imagine that $80K pickup goes up to $120K real quick if we would have to produce chips in America with responsibly mined metals and fair wages. Just a guess though. All auto makers would need to get on board with it or get priced out by the others. I think I read somewhere that an iphone would cost 3x if it was made in the US. That's just one big chip.

I sold my commuter car a couple months ago. Put 70,000 miles on it in four years and sold it in a day for $1,000 less than I paid. I had 5 offers from people that wanted to buy it and put it on Turo before I actually sold it. Noone can get rental cars up here so anyone with an extra vehicle is throwing it on Turo for $1K a week. I would've done that, but the car had an open recall on an airbag that was SIX MONTHS out on the part. So Turo wouldn't allow it on their site. In laws just sold their 5th wheel toy hauler for $8K more than they bought it new in 2021.

I am seeing prices for campers, ATVs, boats, and houses starting to drop rapidly around here. Drove to town Saturday and noticed the dealers probably had 2x the vehicles they had a couple month ago.

Bought a new F150 over 4 years ago and could almost sell it now what I paid for it then based on a quick search on cars.com. On top of that, haven't had to worry about maintenance with the warranty.
