I'm having trouble even understanding this one. As opposed to.... anyone just coming in and voting? Is that really what it's been up to now?

Right now it says something like, "All citizens have a right to vote", basically it is inclusive towards citizens, meaning they are guaranteed the right to vote, but it doesn't exclude anyone.

What it will be changed to is "ONLY citizens have the right to vote", meaning if you are NOT a nd citizen you DONT have a right to vote, previously that was probably assumed by most, but not clear. This will exclude people here illegally, refugees, immigrants here on visa, greencard, etc....

I researched this. If your the holder of an id that is the non-driver id you could vote without being eligible to vote. Way too many non residents can legally obtain these Id’s. If you look up the qualifications to get them you’ll be astounded. Even foreigners here on work visas can get them as well as green card holders.

Does this have something to do with Native Americans?

No but its very possible someone will try to spin... If you heard anything about NA and voting, it probably has to do with the law passed last legislature requiring everyone to have a valid ID to vote. This was held up in a court challenge until just recently. Opponents are saying its unfair to NA's to require them to have a valid ID to vote... Im not buying it!

I do know they will not accept a ND CC permit as an acceptable form of ID even though it has everything they require listed on it

I believe somewhere they (calif) have voted to allow illegals to vote in local election like school boards ect. I assume this would prevent that from happening here. no/yes? db

It wasn't the ID that was being challenged at the SCOTUS, it was the requirement that people have a physical address for mail delivery and not a PO Box. Many rural residents do not have rural mail delivery, hence they get their mail at the Post Office in a PO Box. The challenge was that this requirement unduly affected natives more than it does other races. I am not sure that it necessarily does, but that at least was the argument.

FWIW, growing up in New Town, we had a PO box mailing address for many years.

I dont think the requirement was for a physical address for mail delivery, just that you have a physical address listed on your ID. From a conversation I was following on facebook, this really isnt too much of an issue because for emergency services, all houses are supposed to have a physical address anyway. Some people need to call their local 911 center to find out where it is for their location, and then go in and get it added to their drivers license tho. Plenty of time to do that before the election.

Yes they need physical address on Id. They knew this two years ago and kicked the can down the road. They all have actual physical addresses due to the 911 addressing requirements instilled what 15-20 years ago?

When I was at NDSU we all had box #s on our ids and they couldn’t stop us from voting. They said we were supposed to have proof of residence like a utility or cable bill. Being in an apartment we had neither. We voted and received a letter in the mail later and it was up to the person at the address to send a letter back if someone not living at that address cast a ballot. Basically we voted on the honor system. I wouldn’t doubt that still goes on, or has it changed enough for people to be sent away from the polls? I’m fairly certain the RRV cringes when they think of what would happen if the state enforced the residency and vehicle licensing rules out west forcing all the “newcomers” to vote here or not vote at all.

The gist is you need to have a physical address in ND to vote.....no PO box accepted anymore. That would exclude those who live out of state and want to vote (cheaters) and those on reservations who don't have a physical address they want to provide (spin by Native Americans). I can empathize with the NA who haven't provided a physical address in the past, however they aren't being singled out as the reason for this bill. They are a consequence of it....and I believe if they can't provide a physical address they shouldn't vote. Simple.....you can't prove you live here. It's not a conspiracy against NA's.

This is another poorly thought out/researched initiated measure. The ND constitution already has this protection in it.

I'm voting no on all 4 measures.

Can you please point me to where this is clearly defined already in the current laws. I didnt search extensively but my understanding is that it wasnt clear, hence measure 2...
